Waterfalls with Dungeons of Schley

Anyone have a good idea about how to/what effects to use to create a cascading water/waterfall affect? I've attached a screen shot of the map I'm working on at the moment that I'm trying to create the effect for.

  • Hello. Nice looking cliffs! Attached is my attempt at a waterfall. From memory, I made the river with the "smooth poly" tool but would have drawn it as two separate pieces; the top river, and bottom river. The bottom is skinnier to create some depth. The waterfall part I made with the "polygon tool" to get straight sides and again made the "bottom" of the waterfall narrow to match the bottom part of the river and again, create some depth perception. The edges of all three bits were overlapping but blend in nicely together. Then drew in some water lines with the "freehand sketch" tool (the white lines) and some steam. The steam would have been white blobs made with the "smooth poly" tool again. As for effects I think I would have used edge fade inner for the steam and maybe blur for the water lines.

    I spent ages mucking around to achieve what I did and there were several sheets involved, so lots of trial error and head scratching and you'll get there too :)
  • Yours looks really good - I think I'm boned though. Yours looks great and really conveys the depth but I was thinking my cliff would be like... 20ft up - and since my contour lines/cliff width are so wide it looks weird in my mind. I might just narrow them up and then go with your idea.
