undo rotatation

I have somehow managed to set the rotation to ALL symbols to 90 CCW (-90 degrees) and I can't undo it with the Move Rotate tool because the buttons don't make any kind of sense to me. All the relevant buttons produce the SAME pop up thing in the screenshot.

How do I get out of this mess?

Select an icon and bring it over onto the map. Then right-click, and "set normal" then "more".

And the dialog you see there is the selection method, which seems to have been set incorrectly. Go to Tools > Options and under "Selection Options" check "Select with right button context menu".
