Trouble Printing Big Map

I have a very large map (3600 x 3600) I’ve done in CC3. I’m very satisfied with it. However, I’m having a number of problems that I find difficult to work around. Essentially, I’m having trouble printing my map to PDF. In order to print it, I first have to turn auto save off because it takes longer than 5 minutes for CC3 to prepare the print job. The auto save causes the print job to simply drop without any error message or notification. Also, I have noticed that if I leave the print job running, and the Windows screen saver engages, the print job is also dropped without any error message or notification. Neither CC3 nor the operating system report any error, the job simply gets canceled. So, in order to print my map I have to attend the print job and pray that I eventually get a map. I figure maybe CC3Plus is faster or less of a pain at printing?

I also have CC3Plus, and I’m looking forward to using it, however my map makes extensive use of the Jon Roberts symbol set. If I open my map in the CC3Plus, all the symbols and some of the bitmap fills are not found and show red X’s. I guess I should wait until this symbol set sees conversion?

  • I havent printed directly from CC3 so i may be of no help here. However have you tried exporting the map to an image file like jpg or png. Then print from that?
  • Yes, that also takes a very long time and the results are horribly pixelated depending on the size selected. I have an art folio I plan to put individual pages in to refer to.

Try some of the off generator programs like cutepdf a lot of people have success with it. Also if the map seems to lock up you can sometimes flip to a web page, refresh to a new website and then go back to CC3. No idea why it works but sometimes it does. Also you may want to turn off the s green saver.

What PDF generator are you using?

As KenG, suggested try using a different PDF generator. For various reasons some people have had trouble with certain PDF generators and CC3 in the past while others have not due to numerous issues related to the OS they have and computer hardware they are using. What works perfectly for one system may not work for another.

For your John Roberts maps you can until an official conversion is released copy over the symbols into CC3+. Others have done that for various CC3 symbols that haven't been converted yet to CC3+
