Bitmaps and Res

I notice that fill styles normally have four bitmaps, normal, HI, LO, and VL.

I understand these are high lo, etc.

But what are they used for? When I made some fill styles, I just chose the HI version and pressed on.

Are they supposed to be selectable dynamically by CC3? Or do we manually choose which one we want on a per map basis?

CC3 uses these dynamically, choosing a version depending on the zoom level. That way, if you zoom way out, the system doesn't need to load (the larger invisible) high detail version, but use a low-resources one.

So if I created a style using them...which one do I choose initially? (i.e. used by the style)

You don't choose them, CC3 does. You also don't need to create them yourself. Just create the highest resolution one, but don't add the suffix. Then if you import the symbols or fills into CC3, choose the "create other resolutions" option. CC3 will autocreate 4 versions with the different suffixes.

If you need more control over which version is shown at which resolution, you can do so in the Display Speed dialog > Fill Style resolutions (Advanced). These settings will save with the template or drawing.

Wow. Thanks, that's info I would not have suspected.
