Very quickly, and pardon my ignorance for asking, but...is it possible to build a large map (say, 10000 x 8000) as an overview and then zoom to a specific continent or area and copy/recreate it in smaller scale? Or does that require hand-poking the landmass into a new template?

It is better to make a large map with few or no symbols, then make smaller maps with more symbols.

That I did. I entered basic landmasses and some general terrain types, knowing I wouldn't be wedded to the exact layout. But my question is can I select part of the map and import into a smaller scale map for more detail? I suppose I *could* read the instructions, but that would be OCD, and I am in an ICD mood today :-)

I think it is possible. I know you can link maps on your computer. But I haven't done that.

I would have thought it very possible to scale one map to another. I didn't find the topic in the user's guide, but I did find export/print options.

Scaling is easy. Its connecting the maps I don't know how to do.

Can anyone (besides me and JimP) tell us how to connect maps? I want to take a portion of a larger scale map (10K x 8K) and recreate it in a 1000 x 800 map. Other than hand-drawing, is there a way to do this, such as selecting and transferring? Copy and Paste? Dimensional Gate Spell?

Well, I have the map - the ENTIRE map in the wee little small scale map. Still trying to figure out the trimming function without deleting all the things on the map, including...the map. Good thing I passed on that chance to work in a nuclear reactor!

I can't seem to cut out the items outside the map frame. Erase is the wrong command - it erases the whole map. Trim is not working, either.

You need to use CUT and/OR BREAK first. This will break an entity into pieces so that you can cut of parts of it. Note that if you do this on a filled entity, it will lose it's fill while you work, you can restore it to a filled state by using path to polygon on the remaining pieces after trimming.
