Advice for a novice: help with high resolution export

Hello all thanks in advance for any assistance. I created my world map, roughly 2600 x 2400 miles using the Annual for Herwin Wielink add on (love it). After losing myself all week populating the map I am now completely dismayed as everytime I "save as..." to export the map to print, or manipulate in Gimp it shows up as this awful grainy pixilated view. When I look at examples from google images online I can "zoom in" and the detail is preserved but not so with my export abilities. I use windows 7 and have done the updates if that matters. I think I must be doing something wrong. On the "save as" window I did go to options but I'm not sure i understand how to increase the resolution. I have this problem whether saving as png, jpeg, bitmap, etc.

You want to go to the tools menu, then select options.
From the options window you want to click on the BMP,JPEG,PNG button.
Here you can set the resolution the map exports to.

I know that the VTT I use has it's grid set up in 70x70 pixel squares that equal 5x5 feet, so I take how many feet my map is and divide by 5 then times by 70 and I get my resolution setting.
For you, you just need to figure out how many pixels per mile you want your map.
  • Hmm Im not savvy enough to get this figured out. im trying to maximize resolution. Map size is roughly 27800 x 2400 miles.
I opened the tab button but i am uncertain how to enter data to improve resolution. Any further help?
On the botton right of the options tab is a box "Print resolution divide by" this is set at 2?
In the BMP, JPEG,PNG box Im not sure how to enter data to improve resolution....

Sorry I kinda skipped over the last step.

After pushing the BMP, JPEG,PNG button enter in the width and height under the Maximum Image Dimensions heading.

Your current map is width=524 height=600, give width=5240 height=6000 a try and go up or down from there.

It's a bit cumbersome but it does give you a lot of precise control. I would like to see a feature where you can set the pixels per 5x5 unit so it will remain the same pixel per unit regardless of size or selection, but this works well enough once you get used to it.
