Setting an overland map scale

I'm sure there is an easy way to do this, but I seem to be mentally blanking on it. Basically, I've got a jpeg of a hardcopy map loaded into the background and I want to trace it in CC3, but then I can't remember how to set the map scale such that the distances between cities etc come out right.

Please save my sanity and remind me how to tell CC3 how far I want it to be between 2 points on a map!

Thanks
John

Easiest way is to rescale the .jpg to fit the map scale.
    1. Use Info -> distance to measure a know distance on your map
    2. Type scale [enter]
    3. Select the image
    4. Hit D (Do It)
    5. Enter the real distance divided by the measured distance (Just enter the expression, CC3 will calculate it for you)
    6. [Enter], [Enter]

You can also play with the map scale by changing drawing units: File -> Drawing Properties -> Drawing Units
  • If you know the dimensions of your map you can also use this method
    1. Draw a box the same dimensions as map
    2. import map and make it fit the box
    3. Then set your symbol scales as to map size ( example 1000miles across = symbol size 1, 500 miles across = 0.5 etc etc )
  • Thanks, I'll play with those.
