converting a large narrow png to a cc3 overland map ?

For those who have been here for a long while, I'm still trying to convert the 151x191 pixel surface maps of my Crestar site to a larger hemisphere map. Still at it.

I have 14 world pages, each web page is 6 columns wide and 20 rows tall. 815 x 3513 pixels.

http://crestar.drivein-jim.net/worldall01.html is one of them.

When I import one of these pngs, to scale of 1110 x 4680 miles.

The CC3 map is tall and narrow, instead of being tall and wider in the png.

I'll attach png exports.

What I want to do, is import the original pngs and make maps of them.

When I import them, they seem very much narrower than the pngs I am using. The template is to scale.

Comments

  • This is the 815 x 3513 reduced by 50 percent.
  • This is the png export from a CC3 overland map, at 900 x 1200 pixels.

However, the png export comes out as 332 x 1200 pixels.

If this sounds confusing, I am confused to.

But what I want to do is take the small pngs, and make them a big continent map. I know I'll lose lots of detail, that isn't a problem.

    Thanks !
  • If you've already got a series of CC map files for each of the section, why not just create a new blank 1110x4680 mile map and copy all the CC data from the original series of small Campaign Cartographer maps to the new large one?
  • My computer crashes when I do that. It doesn't crash when I insert the large png.

    Yes it does ;)

I believe one confusion source is the border you use.
The 332x1200 export is to scale with the 815x3513 assembly.

When you talk about a 900x1200 CC3 overland map, do you mean a 900x1200 CC3 template or is your map really thrice wider on your screen ?

If I understand what you want (not sure I do...) and if you still have the CC2 files of the individual parts, I would use the following

    1. Export each CC2 map as a png without the border
    2. Assemble all these exports (PhotoFilter has a nice Paste Special feature to do that).
    3. Import the result in CC3.
  • I have the original maps... I had to take my 300 gig hard drive out and clone it to a 1 terabyte hard drive. So many files...

As for the scale, I think I did export both pngs above as 50 percent of original size. The 900x1200 is the png export size.

What I want to do is make a continent map for the southern hemisphere. i already have the detail maps.

Ah, that makes sense. But because 900x1200 is a 3/4 ratio and your map has a (roughly) 1/4 ratio, CC3 crops the shorter dimension (unless you uncheck the crop to image ratio box in the export options).

I'd still export the small maps without the border and glue them together with PhotoFiltre.
