Hi all. I am having hard time just getting started making a simple hex map, or at least the scale of it. I can make the hex map itself easy enough, but I have zero idea how many 1" hexes I can make on an 8.5x11, 11x17, or 13x19 piece of paper for printing purposes. Is there a default template I am missing?

  • The purposes is so I can make a wargame map. The hexes have to line up 1" hexes.

Why don't you try it out a little? With a pdf printer you can print as many pages as you like without any cost? The first number is easy: How many 1" hexes fit vertically on 11" high page? 11! (A bit counter-intuitively this is for a "horizontal" grid in CC3).

The other dimension is a little more complicated, as a hex column is not 1" across. Instead the factor is 0.866. So a 8.5" wide page should fit 8.5/0.866 or 9.815 hexes. Substract printer margins and a 10 by 9 hex grid seems a good bet to start.
