"Painting"?

I d/led a tutorial about using FT and its author suggests painting after adjusting roughness etc. He doesn't say what he suggests painting except to smooth out the ocean floor. Any idea?

That's a link to your hard drive and I unfortunately can't get to that information. I will use my psychic powers to guess that you are following this tutorial: http://www.ridgenet.net/~jslayton/CGTutorial/index.html

It was written in outline mode in MS Word and the "Painting" is a section with six subsections that offer advice on using the painting tools. The general idea is that FT has some quirks: the prescale offset tool generally gives better result, but is more twitchy to use and painting with the prescale offset tool is better done by using many overlapping light strokes than a few heavy strokes. FT worlds tend to have lots of little lakes near sea level and the river-finding algorithm stops rivers at these lakes. Using the prescale offset tool to paint over the lakes using overlapping light strokes is a good way to get FT's rivers to go all of the way to the sea.
