New Computer Installation and Related

I'm thinking about buying a new computer which uses Windows 8.1 for an OS. Before doing so, I've got a couple of questions. Sorry if this is the wrong place for such things. I'd appreciate any help/suggestions or a reference to where I should look for such information.

1) Does CC3 and related material (DD3, CD3, Annuals) run on Windows 8.1?
2) Will re-installing these programs count against my 3 installs? I'm planning on un-installing from the old computer when the time comes.
3) What will happen to all the maps I've done on the old computer? Will they show a bunch of red X's? Is there any way to preserve them, or would they pretty much be gone?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • I've just installed on a new Win 8.1 machine.

    1. As long as you remember to right click to install as administrator for EVERYTHING, it all runs fine.
    2. I can't speak for ProFantasy, but my understanding is that as long as you only have three installs on computers that you own, you're fine. For example, I have an install on my old laptop, my new laptop, and my desktop. When I finish building my new desktop I'll uninstall from the old desktop so that I only ever have three installs active at any time.
    3. I transferred my maps over to my new PC. Everything worked fine except for a blunder that was my own fault. I had added many of my own fill styles using the absolute location of the file rather than the relative to CC3. Red X's galore...hehe. Fixing is a simple matter of replacing the old file location with the # symbol in the Fill Style Properties to make it relative to CC3.
