Old Dog, New Tricks

Hello,
I started out with CC DOS many moons ago, and was heaviest into mapping with CC2Pro. I had upgraded to the first version of CC3 when things fell apart.
I have been away from the CC mapping scene for quite some time.

And with my new game group, I have reinstalled CC3 version 11, and discover new features such as sheets and special effects!
I have just reinstalled last night, so I am in the process of learning new things. Please be patient with me.

New Trick- This might not be possible but if it could be done it would be a great asset to game days, especially being able to link to files and maps...

On game day I use a laptop running RPtool's Maptools to display maps onto a large sceen TV. Maptools has a Fog of War feature to reveal maps as they go.

Is there a way to simulate this in CC3 now?

I have tried this in the past by drawing a large square covering the entire map with a hole in the center of the square and simply move the square as they go. It is rather clumsy though.

What would be fantastic would be to have a separate viewport viewing one particular location I could drag out to the TV and display only the parts of the map I want the players to see, but behind the scenes still do things in CC3. Wishlist?

Any insight or pointers is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

  • You could use the dungeon lighting effects, but there's no separate player/gm views, and it's nowhere near as fast as maptool's dynamic lighting (although it looks nicer).

CC3 is wonderful, but it's not really suitable to use directly as a VTT. You're better off exporting your battlemap from CC3 and setting up dynamic lighting in maptool.
