Save As Function - Crashes with Sheets On

So, the basics: I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, 4 GB of RAM.

The problem: I'm trying to export a battle map I made as a PNG or JPEG. I can get either to work if I Save As just after loading. However, when I try to add the sheets effects (shadows, coloring, etc.) and then try to export, CC3 freezes and crashes every time. The entire battle map is quite large, so I even tried the rectangular section PNG feature and cropping it down, but it still crashes.

Anyone have some advice on something I could try? It'd be greatly appreciated.

What resolution are you trying to save at? How many pixels by how many pixels?

Does CC3 actually crash, or does it just appear to lock up for a long time?

The reason that I ask is that exporting a PNG or JPG from CC3 with effects on can often take a lloooonnnggg time; I've been exporting 6000x6000 PNGs of my Dragon's Demand battlemap with loads of sheets and effects active and I generally just leave it running in the background, or even go bed and check the results in the morning!

CC3 often reports that it's "(not responding)" at the top of the window during an export, but checking the process using the windows task manager always shows that it's still working hard and eventually it finishes the job!

Also, do make sure that click the the options button before you save, to check the resolution. I know that Ralf exports often at 8000x8000, but I don't think you can safely go much beyond that.

CC3 is a 32bit program and won't even use all of your available 4GB, so your system should be more than good enough.

First, you are welcome to contact tech support.

    Second - try...

Export at low resolution to see if that's the issue.
Export with only one sheet showing. If it doesn't crash, try showing more sheets.
If you find its a sheet causing the problem, turn off effect on that sheet until you find it.
  • Thanks for the few replies here! I'll try some of this when I have the chance. Hopefully something works. Raiko, no, it doesn't actually crash. I did keep getting the "not responding" que, but I've never let it keep going. I'll set it up this afternoon and let it sit for awhile and see what happens first and then if it still won't work, I'll try of the other suggestions.
