Merging Maps

I'm looking to merge two large scale overland maps (6000 x 4700) into a single map (12000 x 4700). Any suggestions on how to do this?

  • It's pretty easy.
    * Create the new map with the larger extents.
    * Open one of the original maps and show and unfreeze everything you want (I generally hide the map borders for instance).
    * Copy everything from the original map, and set the origin
    * Paste the first map into the new map.
    * Repeat with the second original map, picking an origin that will be easy to place on the bigger map (I usually take a corner that is shared between the two original maps).

I've done this multiple times and manual cleanup is minimal. The only thing that isn't done at this point is big entities that cross from one map to the other (spanning continents, for example) are still two entities rather than one. You can decide whether this is a problem or not depending on the amount of editing you want to do.

  • I did this with the mercator template and my world, and found that when I activated the sheet effects, everything went blurry. Any clues?
  • It's been a while since I worked with the Mercator template, but IIRC the ocean or water sheet has a blurred effect on it. So my guess is you pasted onto that sheet. As I type it, I'm even questioning if that is possible -- CC usually preserves sheets and layers when pasting. But you might check a few of the blurry objects (use Info) and see what sheet they are on.
