Mapsize and printing

Hello again,
More problems here.

- How can I change the size of an existing Map?
- When I save my map as an Image file the resolution is horrible (I tried to edit the quality before saving). I tried printing with PDF Creator and got another low resolution file. Then I followed the steps mentioned here: http://www.profantasy.com/service/technical.asp?Q=&ID=79 and got a blank sheet.

I wonder why such a complex and expensive tool can't handle a simple conversion into an image file and hides basic options so well. Any solutions here?

When you save the map as a bitmap (jpg or png), click the Options button in the Save As dialog. It allows you to set the size of your export. If you set to something like 5000x5000 pixel, you should get a very good export quality.

That worked... The "options" button was hidden behind the "help" button for some reasons (microsoft windows i suppose...). Thanks for your help.
Is there a way to change map size and the Background color?

When you are talking about changing map size, are you talking about the map scale (thus increasing the distance in the map between point a and b), or are you taking about simply getting more room to draw? Fro the former, just unhide all sheets, and unhide and thaw all layers, then use the scale command on everything. For the latter, just erase the current map border (the entities on the map border layer), and draw a new one (alternatively, you can scale the existing border). CC3 drawings are always basically unlimited in size, when you create a new map of any given size, what you really do is telling CC3 how large your map border should be, but the drawing canvas itself is almost unlimited. The map border simply serves as a way to restrict drawing tools to a predefined area.

As for background color, I assume you mean the background of the map, not the drawing windows itself. The map background is usually an entity on the BACKGROUND layer and sheet. Simply use change properties on this entity (Note that the layer may be frozen, and needs to be thawed first)

As for the button hiding behind the help button, I believe this was fixed in a patch a few versions ago. Make sure you are running the most recent version of CC3.

Thanks to Valorin for asking and Ralf for answering. I had the same problem. On the "Options" window for "Save As" the BMP Clipboard choices are 8-bit and 24-bit. Mine is set at 8-bit. Does it matter? Also there is a choice of JPEG quality (1-100) - is there a preferred level? By the way, even with a good processor it takes a few minutes to render at 5000x5000.

Don't save as BMP, that format is really not very useful (nowadays). If you want a lossless format use PNG instead it creates much smaller files. For JPG (for even smaller file sizes), I usually use (if I use it at all) a 90% setting - that way the quality stays good and file sizes are already reduced significantly. Go much lower than that and you will get ugly artifacts in the file.

Overall PNG is clearly my favorite format.
