DeRust Bonus Troubleshooting

I'm having trouble with the default forest terrain feature for the new DeRust December annual. I'm getting a message that CC3 doesn't recognize the command VEGETATION. Any suggestions?

Modric, do you have the files "CA84b_Forest.fil" and "CA84b_Forest.FSC" in your folder /System/Fillers/Annual/?

What happens if you try to use the "Fill with Symbols" command (Draw menu) with the above setting?

  • I got the same problem now that I had some time playing around with this style. In my case the exact error messages are "ChkData DAV has no pending DRQ SELREST" followed by "Campaign Cartographer 3 does not understand the command: VEGETATION". The latter is repeated once. After that I cannot use any tools that allow to select multiple entities (eg. "Erase" or "Change Properties") until I restart CC.

I have the files you indicated in the correct location. If I use "Fill with Symbols", nothing happens after I select an entity. Drawing tools that fill terrain with symbols and the command itself work fine in other styles. I tried the CC3 Vector Overland and had no problems, nor do I remember having such problems before.

Ah, I think I found the problem. It is a fixed file path to the symbol catalog in question.

    Please try the following:

    - choose Draw > Fill with Symbols for the Forest Options dialog (or just type FORESTOPT at the command line).
    - "Load" the setting "CA84b_Forest.fil"
    - Check the Symbol catalog Name setting. It probably reads "C:\Program Files (x86)\Profantasy\CC3\System\Fillers\Annual\CA84b_Forest.FSC" which probably is not the correct path to your CC3 installation.
    - Change it to "#System\Fillers\Annual\CA84b_Forest.FSC"
    - "Save" the setting.

Now try to use the forest drawing tool, it should work now.
  • Whoa, that was fast and absolutely correct. Thanks for your help, Ralf.

While we're talking file paths: Wasn't it recommended to install CC3 anywhere but in the standard Program Files directory? At least for Windows Vista or higher? I thought that was posted as a sticky somewhere once upon a time, but I might just confuse things with some other application.

That was a recommendation for Vista, and only when problems appeared. For Windows 7+ this should not be necessary anymore.
