Export Heightmap (image size is small)

Hey guys,

I downloaded the Fractal Terrain 3 Demo. I have created a new map for my claims.
So far so good, the problem is, when I save the map to "16-bit Grayscale PNG Height Files" the image size is only 100 x 100. I have try Export World -> Multiple Files.., but the size of the image is now 128 x 64.
How can i fix this, that the size should be larger?

I hope anybody can help me.

Thanks :)

The demo is limited in the size of images that it can export (something on the order of a maximum size of 128 in the largest dimension). The full version does not have this limitation.

    Oh that's bad :(

    Thanks anyway.
  • If I export a heightmap, is it then a 16-bit image or only 8-bit image?

It depends on how you export the height map. If you use File>>Save As and use the type "16-bit grayscale PNG Height Files", then the output will be a 16-bit image file. Similarly, the "Raw Binary File" option can output either a 16-bit file or a 32-bit file. The MDR and Special MDR file formats contains 32-bit floating-point values that can be read by programs such as Wilbur ( http://www.ridgnet.net/~jslayton/software.html ).
  • I bought this program today. So now I have a problem, that i can't save the "16-bit grayscale PNG Height Files" with size 8192x8192. I get an error code 8, that i need more then 2214592512 bytes (2112 mb) memory, but my PC has 8gb memory.
I don't know why I've got this error. I hope you can help me.

Here is a picture from the error:

What version of FT are you using (Hold down the Shift key and do Help>>About). FT is a 32-bit program, so that total amount of memory that it can access is 2GB (or 3GB, depending on your version). That's the total amount, including the size needed for work buffers and undo buffers.

I just successfully completed an 8192x8192 16-bit PNG export using what should be the current FT version.
  • I use the 3.0.4 version.

My Laptop has 8GB 64-bit(Win 8) and my PC 4GB 32-bit(Win Vista). I have tried with the pc and with the laptop. Both don't work.

Please log into the ProFantasy web site and download the latest FT update. I'm pretty sure that it would be greater than 3.0.4. It doesn't matter how much memory your system has installed, it only matters how much the program can use. Versions of FT prior to 3.0.11 were not compiled with the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag; version 3.0.11 and later have this flag set in the program. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=889654 ( specifically "Comparison of memory and CPU limits in the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows" ) describes in detail what that flag means (the short answer is that versions of FT 3.0.11 or later can address a full 4GB on a 64-bit OS and may be able to access 3GB on a 32-bit OS version).)
