Modifying my coastline and a couple other questions

I've only had CC3 for a few days and I've been playing around with things learning. I've figured out a lot and have a nice little test map drawn up. Some things are still bothering me.

When I created the land I made a mistake that caused the land not to fill the one edge of the map the way I wanted. Instead it made two long island like shapes. I liked how they looked so I left them. The problem is that they are touching eachother and the mainland at their ends. I'd like to trim away a bit of land where they touch but can't figure out how. I've done some of the tutorials and know how to add more land but can't take land away. I've attached a Jpeg of my map to show what I mean. I'd like to seperate the two islands at the top.

Also on my western island I added a desert area. Where it meets the sea there isn't a black line between the sea and the coast like on the other land. How can I get that border effect or take it away from all of the land so that it doesn't stand out? Is it possible to add that black line effect to other things like rivers or lakes?

The last question (for now) is how can I move an object that is already placed? I've seen that I can delete and place a new object but sometimes I've resized, recoloured or otherwise modified the object and just want to move it somewhere else.

To modify land shapes, just bring up the land drawing tool again, and if you look at the command line, you'll see that it has an 'Edit' option. Activate this, and it lets you modify an existing land mass instead of adding a new one. You can use this to both add or subtract land from a landmass. For your islands however, it sounds like you drew them all in one go along with your main landmass, which means they are part of a single entity, which again means that seperating them is a bit more tricky. To be able to do this, you'll need to delete the black outline (Check the editing chapter in the manual for tips on how to select just the outline to delete it), then use break to split up the lines into individual entities, then merge the individual islands back together using combine paths and path to poly.

As for your desert, it looks a bit like it doesn't follow the coast line properly, but extends outside the coastline of the landmass. When drawing terrain, you should ensure that it ends on the coastline and doesn't overlap it. To help you with this, most drawing tools have a "Trace" option that can trace the outlines of entities automatically. There should be an example on using trace in the manual.

To move an entity, click the "Move, Scale, Rotate" button in the left-hand toolbar set.
  • Thanks, that helps. I'll have to do a bit more reading but you've given me the right places to look. You're right about the islands. They were made at the same time as the mainland. The desert was made sloppily and extends past the coast line. I'll erase it and try redoing with the trace.
