Small to world or world to small? Or can you even?

A few years ago I bought CC2 and messed around with it but never did much. The main reason was that I couldn't find a way to create a 'master' world map that could be 'zoomed' in on with ever increasing detail. Now, I admit I did not try the forums or spend months on this.

Is this sort of thing possible with CC3? Do you start with the zoomed first? Would the icons change size to fit the scale?

Thanks.

  • I should probably explain that I realize you can export from FT. But can you scale the CC stuff?

    Hi Arrvaxx,

Welcome back. CC2 uses vector symbols (as opposed to bitmap graphics), and vector graphics scale perfectly. The newest version, CC3, can use both types of symbols.

That said, It's generally better to make several maps, using the world map as guide (you can use the large map to create a regional/local map). You can easily create hyperlinks on your world map to specific regions, that then open the associated maps. The reason this is considered more desirable — in general — is mostly cosmetic.
    1. On a world map, you typically want to scale your symbols larger so they are more visible and more aesthetic. As you zoom in, those symbols become larger and larger and lose their aesthetic.
    2. On a regional/local map, you typically uses smaller symbols and put far more detail into the map. As you zoom out, those symbols become difficult to discern and give the zoomed-out map a more cluttered look.
However, the ultimate answer to your question is, yes, with their vector symbol sets, CC2 and CC3 will let you create a world map that you can zoom into.

    I hope that helps,
