FT3 freehand picking up grid?

Hi,
I'm working with FT3 and trying to basically level some mountains to create my own. I'm using the freehand tool and global set altitude to flatten the mountains. This works great, but it appears that at certain points the freehand tool picks up the lines of the grid. I've deleted the grid completely and this still occurs. Doesn't happen on every single grid line either, but it does pick up what would be the equator line every time. Any ideas what I can do?
Thanks,
Anthony

The most likely thing that you're seeing is the underlying editing resolution in FT. Try increasing the editing resolution ( Map>>World Settings, Editing page, try Large or set a Custom value up to 4096 or so).

  • Well, I when I looked at that I found that I had already had the editing settings to large. I tried the custom value you suggested, but it is still picking up a line. Thanks for the suggestion. Any further ideas?
    Thanks,

When you say "still picking up a line" - by any chance, is this a single vertical line on the map at the -180 to +180 longitude boundary? If so, FT has a known problem selecting across that boundary.

Is there any chance that you could post a screenshot showing what the damaged selection looks like?
  • I think you've hit on it exactly, it is that particular vertical line. I tried working around it by adjusting the settings of the grid and noticed that it wasn't every single grid line it was picking up. Found it odd that it still picked up that line even after I deleted the grid settings.
    Thanks,

The lines shooting off to the sides are diagnostic of the system trying to draw reasonably across the edges of the world (the -180/+180 longitude line). One thing that you might try is to use a rectangular selection on each side of the border. Make the selection a bit bigger than you want and feather the edges.
