Is there a facility to remove the border at all, pls?

Hide border.
But many of the mapping tools use the map border as a limit.
Once you have drawn your map, go to the layer menu and click on the hide column for map border. Export as png or bmp.
All done. Unless you need to trim it, Irfanview and Gimp can be used for that.

You can also simply ERASE it. Just be sure to "thaw" the layer MAP BORDER from the layer dialog first. Some maps also have a white screening polygon around the border to mask any overlapping entities. You'll find that on the SCREEN layer.
