Grid spacing

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out what on earth is this grid settings for. To complicate it even more, I'm not familiar at all with the imperial system, and I'm using the metric system.
I have problems with scale (this is the only problem so far for me in CC3). So here is what I did.

I'm inside Cosmographer 3, and I started from an empty template. Now I try to understand how the grid is working. So, for better comprehension, I edit the 5' by 5 grid, trying to understand. I read this : 5' grid, 5 snaps. As far as I understand, this means that between two dots on the grid, I will have 5', with an additional 5 snapping points inside it, making every dots in my grid separated by exactly 1 inch. Am I correct ? Or already totally wrong ?

But under it, I read Spacing : 1.52400. And there I'm lost. I tried different calculations, but all failed to me so far.
- perhaps is the spacing in feet : 5 inches are 0.416666667 feet. Ok, this is wrong thinking.
- perhaps is the spacing in inches : 5 feets are 60 inches. Ok, definitely wrong thinking.
- perhaps is the grid in squared inches. Which means I should do 5 sqrt. 5 sqrt is 2.2360679775 inches. Hmmm... nah, not either.

And... hmmm... well, actually I don't have anymore ideas... Could someone help me trying to figure out what is the spacing and how I should calculate it ?

You can explain me in inches and feets if you feel more comfortable in doing so. I'll make the translation into the metric system (it's only a switch in the config files after all.)

And asking about metric system, do you know if there is any config possibility to force the program to always use meters instead of inches ?

Many thanks for your help !

    1.524 = 0.3048 * 5

    1 foot is 30.48 cm, so 5 feet is 1.524 m. This is what you get when you select an imperial scale grid on a metric template.

    As for always use metric units instead of imperial units, this is not a global config option, but rather a setting for each template (File -> Drawing Properties -> Drawing Units), so there is no way to set the program to always use it.
  • Oh yes, it makes sense now. So, basically, if I switch to metric, I can set my grids as 5 meters, 5 snap, and spacing at 5 to get the space between each dot representing a 5 meters area...

    Thanks for the info
