Importing Map

Wow been years but getting back to trying to do maps in CC3 again.

Ok I'm importing a map, couple of question after the map is imported

I put the import map on a new layer since it is a hand drawing map.

Once I draw over the original drawing, is there a way to see the original drawing through the new landmass I just drew?

I have drawing over the original map and I notice in some place I need to move nodes around, basically covering the spots I missed. Once I extend a node is there a way to map that part of the drawing, so the coastline will follow the new node. I can see where I have added the node, but still see the original coast line I drew? I hope that question makes sense.

Thanks

Viking

Viking, is the map you import a picture or a CC3 map?

    Assuming it is a picture:

    1. If it is black and white, when you import the map, you have a Bitmap options button on the popup. Click on it and either select Transparent upper left corner or Transparent RGB color with 255-255-255 for white.

    2. If your map is not black an white or if the 1. above is not satisfying, you can use an image editor such as GIMP or Photoshop to make the background of the picture transparent (with GIMP use the Color->Color to Apha command). Then you import it on a new Sheet physically above all the other (meaning the lower in the sheet list indicator, when you click on the S box). When you select the file and click on the Bitmap options button select Alpha transparency.

If it is a CC3 map you import, you need to play with the Sheet order. When you click on the Sheet Indicator (box starting with S: top of the screen) you get the sheet list. As mentionned above, the lower in the list, the higher physically on your map.

You use the E - Edit function of the drawing tool.
See this discussion (scroll down please, the start of the thread is not directly related).

Another way of seeing your original map is to use a transparency effect on the sheet you have your landmass on. That way, you can see the imported map through the landmass you drew. Notice that this requires you to work with effects on, which slows down drawing a bit. Unless you have a powerful computer, make sure to disable all other effects.
  • A simple way i found to trace is this. After you draw your land mass, edit the properties of the landmass and change the fill to Hollow. when you are done tracing features, change it back to Solid.
  • Ok thanks all, I knew there was a way to do it. Going to give it a try tonight.
  • I put the import on its own layer. Draw the map on the other layers and sheets. Compare them from time to time. Save as to different filenames filename01, filemane02, etc. When done, delete the imported picture.
  • Sorry was at work when I answer. Yes the map is a hand drawn map converted to a png file. Yes I'm putting on it own sheet. Not sure if that make any difference. Hoping it makes thing easier.
  • Yea it is now working. Thanks all for your help.
