Question about Dungeon Geomorphs within DD3

Hello, I bought a few of the programs from here, most importantly Dungeon Designer 3, and I have a small question. I have an OLD copy of a Dungeon Geomorph book from 2nd Edition, and I was wondering if there was a way to build my own and add to, the dungeon geomorphs section of Dungeon Designer 3, so that I could put the ones from the book into my creator to use when making random dungeons. Is there a way, or am I stuck in constantly using the book and trying to build each one piece by piece to put them into my created maps?

I see Annual #39 is about Dungeon Geomorphs. I haven't read it, just noticed the directory in my Annuals folder.

CA56 has some information as well on creating geomorphs, as well as some templates to get you started.
(I'm going through all my annuals and pulling out the PDF's so see what I have, been wondering that ever since I bought them)

Directly copied from the #39 annual (if I break any rules by doing so tell me please).

    Creating your own Geomorph Styles

While there are a number of different
    Geomorph styles available, the number
of possible combinations for wall fills,
    floor backgrounds and foregrounds is
staggering. It can never be covered
    adequately by pre-made catalogs.

To circumvent this problem this Annual
    provides you with Geomorph catalog
templates, which can be easily adjusted
    to any style you want
  • um.. do i get those annuals for free or must I pay for those as well? I would like all the info of how, but Not sure I have the money for it if I have to buy them right now.

The annuals do cost money. When you buy the annual, you can either buy the current year's annual, and get the issues as they are released (one each month), or you can buy a previous year and get all 12 issues for that year in one go.

  • Will have to keep this in mind and get that annual sometime then. Too bad you can't buy single issues instead of having to get them yearly. I'd just get issue 39 for now. But ah well when I get the money I'll look into that thanks.
  • It's nice to have the annuals, but they shouldn't be a requirement for doing something in the software.

Have you looked in the user manual? (I haven't)

Or look in the DD3 essentials guide?

If all that fails, I'd gladly help you out to accomplish your task.

  • Yeah, I've looked in both, and neither tell me how to actually add any geomorphs to the geomorph section. so ill get the annual and hopefully it'll tell me how. or give me some ideas. I mostly want to add the geomorphs from the Dungeon Builder's Guidebook from AD&D 2.0, into the mapmaking software so I can use that book to build random dungeons without having to leave out the geomorphs, as the one's provided are major pieces for that book.

  • Well, bought it and looked at it, but it had no information about how to make and save geomorphs to the program to use as geomorphs in the mapmaking process. What I wanted to do was take the gemorphs in the paperback book Dungeon Builders Guidebook and add tehm to CC3 so I could use the autodungeon engine in the book and all of teh Focus and starting Geomorphs rather than just rooms and corridors. ah well.

According to the Tome of Ultimate Mapping :-

"Geomorphs are in principle normal symbols, and are created as such. So for creating these geomorphs, you are referred to the Symbols and Symbol Management chapter starting on page 69, which details everything about symbol creation, including how to organize them in catalogs and setting up collections."

The Tome is inexpensive and, in my view, well worth the money :)

Great Caesar's Ghost, but that's a great idea! I'm ashamed I didn't think of it myself.
