New user needs some help

I have a map that I want to use as a base. There's nothing on it except the map itself. Is there a way to use it and build from there?

Also, can I add my own buildings, trees, etc. and use those along with the ones that come with the program? Thanks.

The way I do that is to make my own map into a BMP or PNG file and then insert it into a cc3 map (on its own sheet).
Then you can draw over it in the style you prefer.

And search these forums. There are a few threads discussing this topic in more detail.

As for using your own symbols, this is perfectly possible as long as they are in png format. (Or if you prefer vector style symbols on your map, you can create these from inside CC3, or modify the existing ones).
To use your own png files in a map, simply click the open symbol catalog button, browse to the folder where you keep these, and select any one of them. This will open up the entire folder in the symbol catalog window. Do note that these are not embedded in the map, but just referenced by path, so you should be certain that the files are located in their "permanent" location, since moving them later will cause problems for the map.
Read more about importing png files in the user guide.
  • Thanks for the help.

Is there a limit on the size? I am looking to wind up with a 24"x36" poster that I will get printed by a printing company.

There is no hard-coded limit on size, but the export process is memory-bound, and it depends on the complexity of the map and effects how large resolution-wise you can make it.
