Installation Order - Sticky Topics not complete?

Hello,

Longtime, albeit extremely sporadic, user here. Just signed up for the forums after being only on the mailing list for, well, a long time.

I am in the process of uninstalling all the add-ons I own as I goofed up the install. Most of this is on me because I didn't come here first to refresh my memory on all the quirks of the installation. However, when I googled the error I received, I came up with the following discussion here on these forums:

http://forum.profantasy.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=3221

I noticed several things I did wrong within the text of the well-articulated posts by Arnicus (bless you, btw). However, when I went to the Sticky posts, specifically ' [Sticky, Closed] Interesting, Important and Helpful topics - A Collection', and looking at the Installation Order and the Vista Installation (I use Win7x64 and know that Win7 issues often mimic Vista), I did NOT find several key mentions from Arnicus' post. The two key omissions I noted were:

* NOT to use the default Program Files (x86) folder, but use something out of that whole Program Files structure completely.
* Install the CC3Update10 patch after installing the core CC3 package and BEFORE installing the rest of the updates.

Given this, I was wondering if someone could schedule some time to review those sticky topics and ensure that all those little tidbits are in there correctly to save people some time? Hopefully, using those two extra tips will result in a solid installation I can use going forward.

Sincerely,

Gary Whitten

Although the ProFantasy team originally advised against the use of "Program Files (x86)" as installation path, this has changed for a while now. IIRC Ralf mentioned several times now that using the default installation path works just fine (though I'd still advise not to try to save any file in there from within the application).

Yes, I only recommend this alternative install location on special, individual problems now. For the vast majority of people, using the default install locations seems to work just fine.

And installing CC3 Update 10 right after CC3 is also not necessary. The current CC3 installer is that version anyway.
