Political Borders

So this is my first attempt at creating a map. I've been trying to map out solid political borders on my map but when I choose the "path to poly", they don't fill up. Can anyone help identify where I went wrong with this? Here's my map for reference.

I've also attached my map file if you want to check out my layers and such.

You need to set the line width of your borders to zero. If the line width is >0 then the solid fill
is only applied to the line, not the whole poly.

That's a very nice first map, btw :)

  • I didn't manage to change those existing borders you made, so I suggest you create a new drawing tool and trace the borders you already have on a seperate layer to avoid problems.
The orange and purple borders seemed bugged, couldn't even change those 2 to solid.

    Click : All drawing tools
    Click : Advanced
Go on border and press new

Draw method : Fractal (looks nicer i think) strength 40 depth 3 is what I use but feel free to expiriment

    Click : Properties

    Width : fixed 0.0

Use fill style : Solid , or pick a certain pattern here.
    Line style : Solid

Now they should be solid fill borders.

The orange and purple borders have indeed a problem: they aren't closed.
The Line to Path command is not always enough to close a polygon if the endpoints are not perfectly the same. The solution is to apply the Path to Poly command.
Of course, you didn't see that your polygons were not closed because the line width is greater than 0 as PDJ and Moskva stated above.
When the line width is greater than zero, the file styles only applies to the thick contour. Changing the line width of all the other contours to zero filled them effectively.
See below for the FCW file with the filled areas.

    Very nice landmass drawing!

Ah no wonder, I didn't notice this.

Same map with borders with some edge fade/transparancy :)
