Freehand sketching continents

I have an issue with creating continents/landmasses. I am working off several old maps of mine made in MS Paint and Corel paintshop, but since I cannot import them, I had to trace them manually by comparing grid coordinates. what I found was that the create landmass tool was entirely not precise enough to replicate the smoothness of the continent shores that I managed to create previously. Thus, I resorted to freehand sketching, but then I learnt that for some reason I could not fill the perfect landmass with colour. instead, it just sat there, transparent with only its borders visible. I require assistance to figure this out.

Why can't you import your old maps? It should be as simple as saving them as a PNG file in some free bitmap editor (I recommend Paint.NET) and then importing it through Draw > Insert File in CC3).

I suspect you only drew the coastline as a path and not a closed polygon. Try to using Path to Polygon (right-click the Explode button) on the coastline to see whether that makes a color show up. If not, post your map here and we'll help you fix it.
  • first of all, it worked when I tried everything Ralf said. thank you. I, however, have a new problem. i need to be able to draw country border and I have no idea how to do that. please explain.
  • disregard the previous post please. I need to know if it is possible to freehand draw borders, because the border tool is not precise enough for me. if it is possible, please tell me how to do that.

Click the Advanced button when choosing the drawing tools. Select the border tool and click "New". Give the new version of the tool an appropriate name (like Border, Freehand) and under "Draw method" set it to "Sketch". Save the tool, you can now use it to draw a freehand border.
