I am curious, he shows a lot of add-on materials, particularly different deck ties. Where did he get those and how does one obtain them?

I believe he's using the HighSpace Sci-Fi Tiles and, possibly, the HighSpace Sci-Fi – Aliens textures that were featured in the July and October issues (#67 and #70) of the Cartographer's Annual, Volume 6 (2012).
As I understand it, single issues (single months) of the Cartographer Annual are unavailable for purchase individually but you can buy the entire year, and it's a really good one. You can learn more about the annual here, and more about Volume 6 at the link above.
