i just want my grid to not be selectable

I can't believe this is so hard..i've been trying for hours.

I am trying to edit a 3D star map with an isometric grid but I am finding the simple task of making it so the grid is visible, but not selectable impossible. Even the default grid CC3 puts on the map when I create it from a template is selectable and it is impossible to edit or move anything without accidentally deleting or moving the grid.

How do I perform the simple operation of creating a grid that is not selectable??? I've tried using the search function on the forum but its incapable of searching for 2 keywords at the same time and there are too many threads that match the keyword "grid".

thanks

You are encountering a (sometimes unwanted) property of "groups" in CC3. As groups can encompass entities on multiple layers, they are no affected by frozen layers. You can select them despite all layers being frozen. The grid is a group.

They is an couple easy workaround for this:
Unlock Groups (via the Lock/Unlock) button on the lower right of the screen. This disables groups temporarily, making their entities behave as normal, i.e. being unselectable on frozen layers.

    Hope that helps.
  • that is a bizarre. is there anyone who ever wants their grid lines to be selectable when their layer is frozen? if so...why ever make them a "group' if this is how groups behave?
  • It does let you quickly change the colour, width, style, etc of the grid though, especially with hex grids - they're made from a large number of elements, but they're all selectable with a single click thanks to being a group.

Although I sometimes find the "can't freeze groups feature" of CC3 mildly iritating I've found that it's quickly worked around by selecting what I want to edit plus the grid, then just pressing "n" (for not) and clicking somewhere else on the grid, away from the rest of what I'm editing. This will deselect the grid. Then press 'd' (for do). These three actions take no more time than right clicking and selecting 'do' would have done.

Alternatively I just hide the grid sheet while I make the edits. Indeed, it occurs to me that it would be fairly easy to add a macro button to toggle the grid sheet on or off, which would save me personally loads of time!
