looking for large multi-parsec Cosmo nebula symbols

I want to use them on a Traveller sector map.

I am looking for large multi-parsec Cosmo nebula symbols.

Anyone have some ? Or know how I can make some ?

I tried some of the free version of Universe pngs, but they look out of place.

Have you tried looking at the images NASA has to offer? Most will need quite a bit of editing if you want to use them as symbols instead of a continuous background, but there are a lot of gorgeous nebulae-like objects in their collection and almost all are in the public domain. Not sure whether that's what you're looking for, though.

Some are copyright, but some are not. I do look at the Astronomy photo of the day often.

But I'm drawing my own galaxy arms. So I was looking for more malleable nebula symbols. Clouds of galactic dust/gas that look with they fit into the Traveller sector and sub-sector maps. I'll try the apod photos, hopefully it will work.

Thinking about this more. Parts of nebula, star fields, globular clusters in symbols so I can make my own nebula, galactic arms, star fields, etc.

I am working on some bmps and pngs from the Universe program to see if I can get that to work. Terrformer posted a link here to it last year.

edit: Universe makes squares. But I've used black multipoly areas to make the edges of the universe pngs not square. still looks odd though. Not trying for a photograph look.

The Vespuscian and Gran-Dal arms are what I want to fix up. Sol marks the general area of the regular Traveller maps. I found a drawnig of our galaxy, and extrapolated the arms I drew.

Can't you turn the Universe square as a fill style? Then you can fill the shape you like and with an inner edge fade it should blend nicely...

Yes, that's what I would do. Use Tools > Import Bitmap fill styles to get your png into CC3 as a bitmap fill. Then apply that fill to your galaxy arm polygons.

If the png is not tiling well, post it here and I'll see whether I can make a nice tiling version of it.

I feel the starfield in the sub sector map is to dense. Just my opinion.

Well, it depends on where in the galaxy it is. From looking at the Traveller books I have bought, some parts of that game universe are thousands of light years closer to the galaxy's center than Earth is. so the star population iws denser. But I have been thinking of redoing that map.
