Create my own lgt files ?

I'm currently usng FT3 and export to Cosmo template to create worlds and moons.

The worlds exports are going well.

I would like to create my own lgt files so I can create gray moons with some small parts in color. To show minerals or ice.

So, what part of the file can I edit to do that ? I'll rename it so I can still make all gray moons and planets.

Thanks !

Do you have an example of what you'd like to see? There are likely better ways to get what you're after than fiddling around with undocumented portions of the software.

I really don't recommend directly editing the .lgt file directly as features that appear to be described in the file may not map to functional features in FT. Also, any given update may break changes made in the unused portions of the .lgt file.

I would recommend using FT's Lighting and Color options instead. The Altitude and Intensity options are the only portions of the .lgt file that are likely to be supported in the long run and those elements can be controlled from the UI there.

The Image Climate shader might be able to get something similar to what you're describing, I think. A noisy gray field with little specks of color might give you interesting results.
  • What I would like to do is be able to make a moon or asteroid of several colors. Kinda like, but not as detailed, as the Lunar Orbiter mineral photos.

I've attached a false-color image of what I'm looking for.

Something like the following? It's the straight color map shown in the lighting and color dialog. I didn't go for the more subtle shades in the original image, I just went for the basic primary colors.

If you're looking for something more like the ugly pizza shown below, I used the image climate shader with a blurry, noisy, desaturated input to the shader. Then I adjusted world temperature to base temperature 100, random 50, variance 50 and rainfall base 0 and random 100.
  • I'll check into those. Thanks !

Tried the first one, looks good ! I'll move the colors around and see what I can come up with. Decide on a color combo, and post them on my Traveller site as mineral maps of asteroids, etc. Okay, I got the second one. I'll work with them and see what difference planetoids and moons I can come up with.

    Thanks !
  • I'm sorry. I completely forgot about Terraformer 0.5 ! Urk. Anyway, I've made some worlds for my Traveller site with clouds. Easy for me to make worlds, it is the decision process on where to put them in parsecs of space, updating the site nav menus, etc. that takes me time.
