Export Height maps to Realm Crafter

Good morning,

Few of my friends are working with Real Crafter (http://realmcrafter.com) to create a friendly MORPG and they asked me several months ago to help them to developp the scenario. When it has been done, I started to work on map creation and after several researches and tests, FT3 and CC3 looked to be the best to 'create' a world and record our ideas. So I bought FT3, CC3, the annuals 2012 and the Tome of Ultimate Mapping. I have to say that I am really happy with these softwares.
The main idea is to create a world with FT3, detail some part of the map in CC3 (cities names, roads, lakes, etc) and have the same field in Real Crafter so we can make it detailled in 3D. To do this, I would need to export height maps out of FT3 or CC3, with a simple gray scale but as detailled as possible.

Would you have any suggestions about the best way to proceed ? It will be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Best regards,

Loydoan.

You can create very nice grayscale height maps in FT3. Load a pure black & white color scheme for the altitude and disable any shading. Zoom into the part you want to export. Save as a png bitmap. There's no need to go through CC3 for this.

Thank you for your quick answer Ralf, i'm a friend of Loydoan, I remember you on RCS forum you're a great map specialist if Ralf is the same ...!
We use RC Pro (not finished, a lot of bug, we know, but, we use it) I remember i can import L3DT file, Raw file and greyscale (i will check tonight) what is the best for you :
    - Import fractal terrain 3 in L3dt, generate texture and after export to RCP (then it's easy to paint texture)
    - Import fractal terrain raw (it's possible?) into RCP
    - Import fractal terrain greyscal bitmap into RCP

Another question, do you think it's better to export all the terrain in L3DT pro for example (if we use l3dt) or to export only a part (like tou say in your answer)

Thank you very much for your help

sorry for my english, it's not my native language, I hope you understand

    best regards

That must have been a different Ralf... not because I don't consider myself a map specialist, but because I've never been on the Realmcrafter website before. ;)

I fear I don't have any knowledge about RC Pro whatsoever, so I can't answer your questions.
  • ah, so it's another Ralf

thank you anyway, we'll do the test and see what is the best solution.

I think exports in greyscale is the best option, one last question is it possible to have a gradient of 65536?

    thank you again
  • Thanks Rafl, very appreciated.

    Loydoan.
  • Hum, I think I have crashed my Grey Scale.lgt file - does somebody knows were to get it back ?

    Thanks,

    Loydoan.
  • Good morning,

Loydoan sent me a heightmap that I've tested, I encounter several issues regarding this
    - Can be exported with a gradient of gray in 16 bits?
    - What is the maximum gradient of gray that can be put (4096, 65536, ...)
    - Is it possible to export only a portion of the map that makes a dimension of 512x512, 1024x1024 or 2048x2048 (instead of 8000x4000) ?

    thanks

If you've overwritten the file, you can do a repair install of FT3 tog et it back.

If you choose the file type when doing Save As, there is an option to save your world as a 16-bit Grayscale PNG Height File, which would indicate 65.536 different shades of gray.
To export only part of the map, zoom in to the area you want, then export. FT3 only saves the current view of the map.
