Having a terrible time with a border

I am just about finished with a Herwin Wielink style map and want to put a border on it. I was thinking something ornate but not too fancy. Just something a little more than plain. I just can;t seem to pick anything. here's a piece of the map in case anyone has a good idea. I am all ears.

Yeah, what dogtag said :-)

Try a border with a solid brown or mayby a fill with a "wood" bitmap.
Maybe a light bevel effect on it.

Or maybe a "simple" Celtic weave sort of pattern.

I might consider trying something in the mountain color range. I know its only a piece of the map, but my eyes are drawn to the mountains, might border it nicely.

Or a nice mid to dark brown. There doesn't seem to be much brown in the map and I think it would look nice as a border around the green. But then, I'm pretty much a Crayola 64 kinda guy who wishes Garanimals made clothes for adults, so my color opinion may not carry much weight...

Ok thanks for the suggestions you guys. I went over to CGTextures and picked up a few pieces of this and that and came up with this border. I think it looks good. Once I get all the labels and roads and stuff in, I will post the map whole. Thanks for the help!

Cool! It makes the map look like something hanging on some duke's wall or something.

I like it, but I think it overpowers the map a bit. And it seems kind of, I dunno... "bright?" My suggestion, for what it's worth, would be to try it at a smaller size, maybe 1/2 to 2/3 the current width. It also seems a bit fuzzy so maybe shrinking it would mitigate that.

Or it's my eyes, as I've said before. In any event, it's pretty neat.
