Master Filter list
Is there any way to switch it off altogether? All I want is to do is, for example, select the Dungeon mode, click say the Temples set and have a (any) Temples catalog come up, then
cycle through them all if necessary using the toggle button (like they used to in CC2).
Currently, a lot of the catalogs appear to be missing, sometimes clicking on the Temples button (as example) does not change anything. When I do get catalogs, everytime I click the toggle button it comes up with a dialog presenting a number of catalog slot, some populated, others empty. Just give me a catalog and let me cycle through them as I want!
So, a couple of semirelated questions:
1. How do I get CC3 to know about CC2 symbol catalogs - ie so's I can cycle through them too
2. Also how do you stop Symbols I put on my own sheet from being moved to a SYMBOLS sheet - they keep moving at random and I keep having to move them back to where I want them?

You can always set the master filter to * (asterisk), which means everything. To do this, type the following on the command line:
SYMICONFOPTM <spacebar> 1 <spacebar> * <enter>
This will set the master filter list to contain exactly one entry, the *, which results in all styles being displayed. This won't allow you to use the symbol style toggle to toggle between all styles, but when you click a symbol catalog button, for example the mountains button, it will list all the available mountains, regardless of style.
1. CC3 should already contain all the symbol catalogs from CC2, you only need to set the appropriate master filter to have CC3 show them. This is automatically done if you start "CC2 Pro standard overland" map. If you use the trick I mentioned above, by setting the master filter to *, the old CC2 catalogs will be displayed alongside the CC3 ones.
If you have CC2 catalogs from other sources, you must register them through the symbol catalog settings dialog. The button for this is the one next to the toggle style button. Just click the advanced button in this dialog, and register a new catalog. Note that the filters operate on the name you give the catalog, so it should normally be named STYLENAME SYMBOLTYPE EXTRAINFO (for example CC2 Filled Mountains Brown)
2. All CC3 symbol catalogs (With some exceptions) are set up to automatically put all symbols to the SYMBOLS sheet (Because in most maps, that is where most people would want them). You can either disable this completely by unchecking "Symbols choose their own sheet" in the symbol catalog options dialog, or you can name your sheets that will contain symbols with a name that starts with the word SYMBOLS. For example, if you want your mountains on a seperate sheet, simply name a sheet SYMBOLS MOUNTAINS. Now, if this sheet is active when you place symbols, then the symbols will be placed on this sheet. Otherwise, they will default to the regular SYMBOLS sheet. Note that once you do this, it is obviously important to remember to change sheets manually. If the SYMBOLS MOUNTAIN sheet is active when you start placing trees, then they too will happily go to this sheet instead of the default one.
Tried the Master Filter thing, and yes it brings up the dialog of catalogs to do with the style type button I clicked DD Pro Elemental - but there are 8 entries, three of which are populated, one (the top one) is completely blank with no catalog title, and the rest are blank but with catalog titles - attached screenshot
I would try to do a repair install of DD3. Make sure to right-click the setup file and choose "Run as Administrator". If that doesn't help, send me me an email (ralf@profantasy.com).
And I guess tat means I need to do for each catalog? Ie. no generic symbol properties?
Will give it a try this evening, thanks for your help (and patience) - also got to repair DD3
When I click on the Symbol selection buttons for DD£, they open up the symbols down LH side, and pressing the Toggle button allows me to step through the various catalogs - EXCEPT:
Skirmish:
1.Select Catalog Setting: DD3 Color Skirmish, DD3 Color Skirmish Evil
2.Select DD3 Color Skirmish - give symbol icons
3.Toggle - other skirmish symbols (not sure what they are)
4.Toggle - blank symbols
5.Toggle - blank symbols
6.Toggle - gives Select Catalog Setting - back to 1.
Geomorphs:
1.Filled Geomorph symbols
2.Toggle - Mono (I think?) Geomorphs
3.Toggle - Select Catalog Setting:DD3 Color Geomorphs Basic,Dirt, and Flagstone
4.Select Basic - really basic outline Geomorphs
5.Toggle - Filled Geomorph symbols
6.Toggle - Select Catalog Setting: NO CATALOGS LISTED
Wall Features:
1.Toggle - Select Catalog Setting: NO CATALOGS LISTED
The question is why do these types of catalogs not behave like all the others (ie correctly)? Why do I get blank catalog lists? This is a brand new installation so these should be the default settings
I have the 4 DD3 default Master Filters. If I click the Walls button, I get the first Walls symbols. If I click Toggle twice I get 2 more sets of Walls symbols (these are in fact identical to the first set, but that is a different question). If I then click Toggle I get the Select Catalog Setting (SCS) dialog.
The SCS has the Catalog filter = "Walls Connecting*" with the Master Filter = "DD Pro Line" - and does not list any symbol sets. If I set the catalog filter to "Walls" and click Find I get DD Pro Line Walls, which gives me Wall symbols (again, identical to the previous). If I then click Toggle three times, I get back to the SCS with filter = "Walls Connecting*", and no catalogs listed - and again, I need to change the filter to "Walls" to get a catalog.
1. How do I change the filter to permanently be "Walls" for the DD Pro Line Walls master filter instead of reverting to "Walls Connecting*"?
--the Save button doesn't save my change to "Walls"
--the Browse button BTW doesn't work, period
2. When I do get the 'different' Walls symbols selected by pressing Toggle, why are they all the same?
