Printing Maps

Hi All

I've potentially got a commission to produce a couple of larger maps for a new campaign setting. One of the questions i've been asked is how big the maps can be printed. Anyone know how big I print and what settings I need to use ?

  • Hi Dargurd,

when I submitted an adventure to be published in a role-playing magazine they had asked for all pictures, handouts and maps to be in TIFF file format and to have a resolution of 300DPI (pixels per inch). When you export a map from Campaign Cartographer you can edit these settings in the export options.

I believe the final size of the exported map would then just be depending on how many pixels you enter for width and height: At 300DPI resolution, a map which is exported at a width of 3000 pixels would be 10 inch wide when printed, and so on. In any case, you should watch the file size, these image files tend to be rather large.

Also, ask the publisher which file format and resolution is needed, just to make sure.
