Converting a CD2 map to a CD3 map.

Hello all!

I have created a huge city (5000+ buildings) that I created with CD2 in CC3 (and I have run the compatibility thing for CD2). Is there a way I can replace all the vector symbols with the equivalent CD3 symbols in a single go, or do I have to go through and change each one individually?

I suspect my search skills failed and that the answer is in here somewhere, but I wasn't able to find it.

    From the symbol manager, you can replace all instances of one particular symbol with another one, but there is no way AFAIK to bulk replace all of them. Also note that there isn't a 1:1 relationship between symbols in the CD2 style and new CD3 symbols, so if you do bulk replacements, the new symbols might not be perfectly positioned/scaled, or you may not find the exact same symbol in CD3 at all.

    Yeah, I figured there would be some problems, but however many I can do through the symbol manager, that's a number fewer I have to do by hand. :)

    If you are going to use the symbol manager, make sure to first load up the desired CD3 catalog, and click one on each of the houses you want (Don't place them in the map, just click on them, as this will add the definition to the map, and make them available in the symbol manager.) This will make them available for selection when you use the replace command in the symbol manager.
    Also note that the symbol manager can mass-resize symbols (It resizes the actual definition instead of the individual symbols), which is great to use if the symbol you replaced with is a bit smaller or larger.

    Thanks again. I've started the very painstaking process of trying to find any matches, and then deciding which ones to use for replacements if there isn't a match. The biggest thing for me now is trying to figure out which symbol is closest in size so I don't have as much work to do resizing.

    Turning on the "Show symbol size" catalogue option would help you there, if you haven't done it already :)

    I mention that cos I had CC3 for months before I realised that option existed....
