Having trouble with one of the examples. Page 280 step 3 making a tower tool

Tried redoing this step by step 3 times and keep getting this strange result

Yea, there is an error in the tome. All you need to do is to swap the widths of the entity and the outline entity (the 8.0 and 0.0 values), and it will be fine. This will be fixed in the next version of the tome.
