Bayside

I keep practicing with this Jon Robets style.
Not an easy style to master but well worth it.

The town of Bayside.
Its where the adventures of my D&D group starts.
Bar, BUffy ans Elly are three different organisations that each hire adventurers for different assignments.

Very nice. I especially like the walls and towers.

How long did it take you to make the map, do you think? I love city/town maps but it takes me forever (and I never finish).

It's great to have a map of your "home base." Thanks for sharing it!

  • Really cool map. It looks like you have some tiling going on with background bitmap (i.e.visible pattern of squares) - have you tried increasing the size of the bitmap somewhat (i.e. from like 10x10 to 20x20?
  • Now that you said, the bitmap does not look right. It need to be bigger (I would say 4 to 5 times bigger may look very good) and some effect. A blur or a fade iner to make the transitions more subtle.

It is a great map. I have not yet made any city maps. I am really afraid of the amount of work needed to make a map like yours.
  • I also agree that an inner fade would really help to transition between elevations...

...and I should also add that my attempts to map anything other than dungeons have largely been abysmal failures...(so this guy is very jealous!)

I have only made regional maps. I tryed once to do a city map and put in the trash after 4 days working hard on it. I will begin to try dungeons, caves, floorplans and the like before trying a city again =).
  • Practice, practice and then practice some more.

    This is the 4th version.
And I know it can be a lot better.
No idea how many hours I have worked on this.
But its done over a couple of weeks.
I usually work on several maps at a time.

Will try the inner fade later.

Looks really nice. And I can tell that your practicing are making some great results. Your maps are getting better and better. The only thing I´d change in this map would be the roads. They are a bit thin, which makes them hard to spot. That might also be because of the resolution of the map. Apart from that great map :)
