Problem with Terrain Features (Spec. Deserts)

Hi there,
new user, so sorry if this is an amateur mistake, but I'm pretty stumped and a few Google/forum searches don't seem to be doing much to help me. I think I understand basic sheets, sheet effects and so on, but for some reason I'm having trouble applying them to deserts. I've tried both the Dark and Light Desert terrain features (as well as a Fractal Landmass with the "Desert" fill), and none of the sheet effects seem to apply to them. I've tried several times; I'm sure the desert in question is on the sheet to which I'm applying effects, and it is the only feature on that sheet. I've tried Transparency, Edge Glow, Edge Glow Inner and Glow to no avail.

What I'm trying to do, is facilitate a smooth transition from grassland into desert, rather than a sharp change which is all I can currently manage.

Thanks,
James

Is the desert and the grassland on the same sheet? The effects you list looks at the combined outline of all the entities on the sheet, not each individual entity, so if the desert is in the middle of the grassland, and they are on the same sheet, then you won't see anything on the desert.
The solution here is to make a separate sheet for the desert.

Also make sure that the entities are on the sheets you think they are, by using the List command from the Info menu.
  • Thankyou! The issue seemed to be that even though I was selecting the independent sheet right before placing the feature, it was still reverting to placing it in the default "Land" Sheet.

This is still happening, so it'd be nice to know any way of stopping this, but thanks to your advice about the List Command I was able to see and manually correct the sheet after placement =)

All drawing tools have a sheet setting that cause them to use that sheet, and not your current sheet. This is to make it easier to get stuff on the right sheet, without having to remember to change the sheet manually all the time. When you click the all drawing tools button, there is a check box in the dialog that allows you to turn off this behavior.
