Mapping the deck of a ship

I'm interested in mapping the deck of a ship so I can print it out and mount it to some foam board or plywood to use with miniatures at a game table. What do you mapping gurus recommend to account for the odd shape of a ship's deck as the boundaries of the map?

I'd still leave the map border as rectangular, if you only for the border-limiting functionality of the CC3 drawing tools.

The Annual Vol. 3's March issue is on sailing ships, with a nice example map included.

If you search the user map library for "ship" you'll also fine some very fine examples, like this one.
