Can Fractal Terrains do this?
Hi I'm interested in purchasing FT but wanted to know if it can do something like the following.
1) Generate a random map based on specific conditions. This I know it can do however for my example let's take an Earth like planet as an example.
2) Can I take my planet from example 1 and apply a drastic change to the environment and see the changed results. i.e apply a massive & prolonged drought to the map or a period of ice age?

2) As far as my understanding goes for what you are trying to achieve, no. FT cannot model planetary evolution like that.
I would really recommend that you download the Fractal Terrains 3 demo and give it a spin. This way, you can test it for yourself. The demo is fully-features, except that you get a very low resolution when trying to export image files from it. I don't think it comes with the real-world data sets either which lets you create earth and mars. These data sets are freely available on the net however (ETOPO and MOLA data sets). Neither of these things are needed to test out all FT3's features however.
