Question For The Staff About Mountain Shadows?

Hi - this is a question for both the staff - and any past symbol catalogue creators out there - here's the question:
Concerning the shadow effects on the mountain and other symbols in the overland catalogues - where those drawn and then alpha masked for partial transparency - or was some type of lighting and shadow effects filter applied to them in the graphics editor in post production? The reason that I'm asking is that I am starting the core symbols in my symbols package - and I have already started drawing out some mountain symbols...

I didn't design any symbols, but I did research them for a past project. I'm 90% they are just alpha mapped images. You can make these easily in PhotoShop with a drop shadow. Just make sure the angle is correct, or they will clash.
