Total noob wanting to print out A3 battlemap

I have created an A3 sized battlemap and exported this to a jpeg, that was emailed to a friend who has access to a plotter. He managed to print it out at the required scale (5' to 1") but the quality of the map was very poor. He said that I needed to up the resolution from what he guessed was around 150 DPI to at least 600 DPI.

I am now stuck and not sure how I can do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Alan

In the save as dialog, AFTER having selected the image file type, you can hit the options button to set the resolution. A# paper is 11.7x16.5 inches, so at 600 DPI (assuming no margins, and assuming your map is at the exact correct aspect ratio), that should work out to be 7020x9900 pixels. Oh, and you may wish to use png instead of jpeg, since PNG uses lossless compression, the end result tend to be a bit better.

Note that this might be a bit larger than you can manage to export from CC3, so you may need to go a little down from that value.

Another option that sometimes work better when dealing with large resolutions is to print the document to a virtual PDF printer. Install a virtual pdf printer driver, then set the page size to use for A3. Now, when you print, you should end up with an A3-formatted pdf you can have your friend print.

Thank you for your reply. Do you have a virtual PDF that you would recommend?

PDFCreator is free and works nicely. Doesn't look much, but gets the job done.
