First Map Feedback

Hey folks,

I started using CC3 a short time ago, following various tutorials and tips from the experts, and the end result is attached (I'm not sure if this will display in the post or not - I don't know how to do this!).

I'm happy with my creation so far - ideal for a homebrew campaign that myself and a friend are joint-GMing, but was thinking it might be too birght or 'cartoony'. I was wondering if anyone could steer me on how to tone it down a bit, if possible without ripping it up and starting again.

I apologise if this has been answered or discussed at length before, my searches haven't, thrown up anything relevant.

Thanks!

Very nice! When it comes to toning it down a bit I usually do that in third party program like Photoshop. But there are a lot of programs like the gimp that you can use to do this. Or just upload it to your phone and run it through instagram (or any other application) for some nice effects :)
  • Thanks for the compliments guys! Though really, Joe Sweeney deserves your praise =P

You know, I never really thought of running it through external apps - I guess I thought it would affect the quality. I'll give it a bash, thanks!
  • This is a fantastic map! I only have a few "technical" corrections to suggest: The head of the river could be hidden behind a mountain so the start isn't so evident. The road that leaves Lantern Town is sitting on top a tree... last thing would be to make your lables a little more visable, they kind of get lost in the land.

As to make it less "cartoony" you can apply the RGB MATRIX effect, place it on a sheet that has no other effects, and check the "apply to entire drawing" box, then choose a preset (sepia, black and white, etc). great Job!
  • Thanks both!

Jonas, the suggestions and corrections are much appreciated - I'll get them fixed. Text labels are a bugbear of mine though, making them stand out but still feel part of the map... work required.

I'll try the RGB Matrix effect too.
