A couple of annoying problems

Okay first, I just got City Designer 3. I'm excited to learn more how to use it, but right now when I click on any of the symbol catalog icons it automatically brings up the vector symbols instead of the other kind (is it bitmap?), and I don't ever use the vector ones, so I constantly have to look around in the main catalogs to find the ones I want which is very frustrating.

My other problem is that when I was adding titles to the continents/islands on my map, some of them turned a light brown (instead of the darker brown I had them all set to). If I would select and then deselect one, it'd go back to the proper color, but then if I hit redraw it would turn to a lighter brown (and most of the ones that did this were mostly over a land mass, that might have something to do with it).
Has anyone had either of these problems and can anyone help me?

For CD3, the two first buttons (These are separated from the rest by a 1 button wide gap) on the symbol catalog toolbar will load raster symbols, the rest of the buttons will load vector symbols. If you do not have these two buttons, there should be a menu fix for CD3 on your registration page.

As for your labels. Do you have sheet effects turned on when this happens? If so, are you using any effect with a transparency setting on the text?
Assuming that is not the cause, if you use the list command on the text, do they indeed report to actually be in the same color?
