Billingston Town "Portrait"

This is really just a quick experiment for an isometric-like view of a town. I got to thinking about the books I read as a kid (and will now be reading with my son), an how I always loved the ones that got me to say "Ooh, what's going to happen there?" The effect I was going for was something between a John Speed (16th century) map and a full on topdown CD3(modern) style. As always, all criticism and comments welcome. Thanks!

It's just the CC3 Vector Color Set. The bottom 1/3 of the map is set to 100% scale, the middle 1/3 is 75%, and top third is 50%. you can use any city symbols you like, just group them together like buildings instead of an abstract icon to show where a city or town is on a world map.
Here's one I did in 5 minutes using the CC3 standard set... (only I forgot to scale the buildings, whoops!)

I really like the non-standard approach. You can make some really pretty maps that way. I especially like the bridge to the lighthouse.

I like the lack of scaling of the buildings, myself. It gives the map a whimsical feel, perfect for a child.
