increase performance?

I just purchased CC3 and I am in the process of going thru the tutorials and online help, but the program runs very slow for me on an XP machine with 4 gigs of ram, 2.4 ghz core 2 duo and a 512 meg gforce 8800 gts video card. Is there a way to increase the ram the program uses or speed things up? So far I haven't found anything searching google or the forums about this topic.

Thanks

hmm. No reason it should run slow. I run mine fine on a computer with lower specs than that.
When using CC3, do you have the effects on when working? These require a lot of processing speed to keep enabled when working, especially if you are running lots of effects. You usually get a far better performance by working with these off (Turn them back on when you need them)

You can increase the RAM used for bitmap cache, that might speed up things a bit. Hit the "Display Speed Settings" button (looks like an hourglass with a magnifying glass) in the leftmost toolbar to configure these options)

    Aside from what Monsen said...

Windows XP (32bit) has a hard RAM limit of 3.5 gigs of RAM. It can address up to 4 gigs, but that includes the swap file. If you have 4 gigs of RAM installed, you might see a performance decrease instead of the opposite. If you wanted to run a test to see if the amount of RAM is slowing you down, you can always remove a stick of RAM and see if things speed up. If there is no increase then the amount of RAM probably isn't the problem. You will still be running if a far less efficient manner than if you had less than 3.5 gigs installed though. If you are running Windows XP (64bit) then there is no problem with the amount of RAM. 64bit versions can address multiple terabytes (I don't remember the exact amount) of RAM.

Heh - when I read the thread title, "increase performance", I thought this was going to be a spambot Viagra ad! :)
  • Opps, sorry I said XP machine, but actually it is Vista. CC3 is not always slow, but sometimes it will seem to lock up, and then 45 seconds or more later unlock. I'll try messing with the bitmap cache and see if that helps. None of my other software programs or games have any problems with speed or locking up.

I understand now. Are you using the latest CC3 update? It addresses a lot of Vista issues. If you are using the latest update, then try writing Profantasy's tech support. The issues you are having might be things they want to know about to address in the next update.
