Saving Zoomed View

I am very new to the software, I have been reading through the various PDF's etc that come with and I am getting a handle on things. I am curious if there is a way to zoom in on a larger map to save as PNG/BMP/JPG of just whats zoomed in to create smaller maps of a larger one. Like if I was looking at a map of the world and I just wanted to save a zoomed in image of say Europe, can I do this?

I have tried fooling with the various save options but I can't seem to figure it out. I searched the forum and in program help and if its there I am just not using the right criteria, any help would be great.

Thanks!

In the save as dialog, select the option for "rectangular selection png". This allows you to define a rectangle of the map to save rather than the full map. You don't even need to zoom in first to do this (Obviously, you can also zoom in first to easier see exactly where you define the export rectangle)

Thanks I thought that might be it but I have tried that and it doesn't seem to let me specify the rectangle I want to save, if I have to do this before I hit save I am unsure how?

No. When you select the "rectangular selection" file type, enter a file name, and click save, you should be prompted (by the command line) to define the rectangle. The actual saving will take place once you have specified the rectangle.
  • Thanks, much appreciated!

It seems so simple after of course.... I made the assumption that it was giving me an overwrite prompt that it as done.

    You're welcome.

Yea, everything seems easy in retrospect. Just the way of things :)
