FT3 - Saving a selected area only for later editing

Hello all, I recently bought FT3 and I am very much enjoying it so far - however I am a total novice and have a small problem.

I was wondering how I select an area of land (for example one continent) and only save this view (not the whole world) so I can edit it in GIMP or other software?

Also, what is the best way to export things for editing in such a program?

    Zoom to the view that you want and then try File>>Save As with a file type like BMP or JPEG or PNG. This operation will save the currently-visible display to an image file. You can set the desired resolution (up to 6000 or so) in the Image Save Parameters dialog.
